Artificial Intelligence - How it could lead to a greener and healthier world

One of the most discussed topics of this decade is without doubt global warming and how the climate changes are impacting our way of life. The general tempature is rising and the weather is getting more extreme. Its therefore vital that we find the most effecient solutions within the next decades if we are to save the next generations from living with the mistakes of the past.

Many solutions do already exists to decrease the overall consumption of oil and gas, however most of these are either very expensive to implement or require us to rethink our daily habits. It's therefore important that we are as effecient as possible when it comes to managing the impact of climate changes and implementing countering solutions. To achieve such a new tool has been presented which we are only starting the see the real possibilties of namly Artifical Intelligence. 

To discuss how AI can be used to accomplish before mentioned problems with Climate impact three use cases will be presented.

- Forrest analytics
AI has proven to be a revolutionizing way of analyzing the damage done after hurricanes and extreme weather around the globe especially when it comes to how large forrest areas has changed in such extreme weather conditions. The reason why such change in forrest areas are important in relation to climate change is due to how vegetation decomposing is emitting more CO2 into the atmosphere. Even though new trees gets planted they are smaller and does therefore not store the same amount of carbon. But where humans are having a hard time understanding such impacts based on pictures from airplanes, AI is capable of being trained to recognize different tree species and thereby helping researchers understand and study such changes on vegetation.

- Decrease city pollution
When talking about climate changes it's hard to avoid mentioning how city traffic and energy production is polluting the city air in such a large scale that citizens of some cities are carrying masks on a daily basis to improve their breathing and avoid the smoke of toxic. AI can in such cities help local goverments and companies analyse the need of energy of its citizen at a given time to make better use of the energy produced by reudcing the production at low hours and only raising it when peak hours are approaching.

- Agriculture
With the use of AI farmers can now use sensors and data from satelites to better understand the health of their crops and thereby increase the producing by only watering the fields when they are in need of such and cut down on the use of fertiliser which often have an impact of local water and nature pollution when misused.
